About the Moe Ranch
The ranch was established in the early 1900’s by a New Yorker who came out to speculate during the railroad land boom. It fell on hard times through the 20’s and 30’s, changing owners often. Audun Moe, a Norwegian immigrant arrived in the US in 1928 and made his way to relatives in the Musselshell River Valley. There he met a young woman, Carol, who taught at the one-room Selkirk School, just up the road from where he was staying. She taught him to read and write English. Twelve years later, Audun married his teacher and brought her home to the newly acquired Moe Ranch. Together they raised three children in the stone house on the ranch.
The Moe Ranch is now a 2nd generation ranch with the 3rd generation in the wings and the 4th busy growing up. Richard, the youngest son, ranches the home place and still lives in his birthplace, the Stone House, which celebrated its centennial in August of 2008.

A 12” by 8’ time capsule was buried on the ranch in August 2008 to be dug up in 100 years by the Moe great, great grandchildren.
